Todd Rahm PDF Print E-mail
Howdy, my name is Todd Rahm. I was born in Danville, Illinois (Only because it was the closest hospital) and raised in Indiana. Mostly in the towns of State Line and Veedersburg.

I was fortunate enough to graduate in 1988, and thanks to the delayed entry program, I was already scheduled to go immediately into the good Ole US Army. I spent the summer months of 1988 at Fort Benning, Georgia going through Basic Training, Infantry AIT, and Airborne School. Somewhere in there the Army had me sign what they call a dream sheet (A where ya want to go wish list that almost never happens), to which I listed Italy, Panama, and Alaska. At the end of AIT, they told me and 18 of my other soon to be "Yard Dart" buddies, that we were heading to Fort Richardson, Alaska because they were gona start a new Airborne Unit (Which was late the reactivation of the 1st of the 501st). To say I was excited was an understatement.

I got out of the Army after four years and knew I was staying, and here I am.

Now to my addiction, which by now most of you are aware of and contribute too, Collecting Predator Calls.

The seed to this addiction was planted in the vast open space of my brain after reading an article in the April 1999 Varmint Hunter Magazine, Collecting Predator Calls By Bill Daniels, on page 215. Being an old football card collector, I thought, what a cool thing to collect and I kept that magazine close at hand. (Bill is now a person I value as a friend)

Sometime after that, while surfing Ebay, I watched an old wooden Weem's go for about $12, and observed who the bidders were. The next week I saw another Weem's, that to my untrained eye, looked the same, go for about $50, and it had the same bidders. So I decided I was gonna email these bidders and ask what I had missed. These bidders were Jay Nistetter and Al Lux, and both were willing to help out and point me in the right direction. Al even sold me my first starter collection, so to speak. Both guys were tormented with my emails and questions for a long time and am I grateful for their patience and guidance, because with out them I probably would have learned some hard lessons in the hobby for sure. Uncle Jay, as he became known, became my biggest mentor, and one of my biggest inspirations, and still is to this day.

Now that I'm deep in to collecting, let me tell ya little about that. I mostly started out collecting mostly older predator calls, and did that for a while, until the internet boom made access to custom spinners, a lil' more easier. I couldn't keep up with some of the best known collectors out there, as they went for Weem's, Circe's, Thomas and various other classics. So I turned towards the customs, as I really enjoyed, the new calls, and interacting with the spinners. So this has became my main stay for a few years now, but I still pick up the occasional old call, just because some habits are hard to break..

I love every thing about this hobby.....the calls, the history, and collecting, but mostly for the friends I have made, from collectors to the spinners. Thank you, you are a special group of individuals.
